Of course ill be using my much faster desktop (when the parts come in, my 1.2ghz died) but im a bit concerned about optimization of the speed on the gui in the future. Are you cutting corners in code for now or no? just curious ROnC

Developer Posts: 746 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: England | Hi Ron, Not sure if this is actually the GUI - there's a fair amount of graphics optimisation in the code. If you're using reViSiT in Manual/Auto keyboard mode, then there could well be delays in the keyboard response. The response time is entirely down to Windows, and can potentially be quite high - the cost of intercepting keyboard messagess, rather than being handed them on a plate. On all the machines I've tested, the graphics overhead barely registers on the CPU load meter. The ultimate test is to try reViSiT in Host keyboard mode - which requires a Host that supports it, like Cubase, VSTHost or SAVIhost. Hope this helps,

Regular Posts: 62 ![]() ![]() Location: United States | Wait so what youre telling me is that I wont be able to use tracktion and reViSiT with any way of having a low latency keyboard response??? ![]() That is bad news. RonC

Developer Posts: 746 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: England | Maybe. It's possible that you might need a stronger CPU than 500Mhz to run Tracktion + reViSiT + get good response on the keyboard "stealing". I believe it's totally up to Windows and the VST host (e.g. tracktion) how they prioritise their message handlers. But I'll look for more info once we hit Beta. I don't have any slower computers to test this on - would you mind downloading SAVIhost or VSThost to test the response time in both Host and Manual modes? My guess is that Host is fine, but manual suffers that same problem, but it would be nice to know for sure. Cheers,

Regular Posts: 62 ![]() ![]() Location: United States | Significant difference! I think you should provide this realtime setup as a download option ![]() Well this certainly is interesting. Im sure there should be a way to ask the programmer of tracktion maybe for some insight? I'd wish that it did support host mode... Here's his profile at kvr-vst maybe you could send him an email through it http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=4591 RonC

Regular Posts: 62 ![]() ![]() Location: United States | I'm sorry I failed to say which modes worked. All the modes worked almost flawlessly. It's got to be tracktion ![]() ![]() http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58760 RonC

Developer Posts: 746 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: England | Hi Ron, What do you mean by "realtime setup"? Thanks for the Tracktion contact, I will certainly get in touch with him. If he added keyboard support for VST plugin's it would go someway towards making his VST host stand out from the crowd! I assume T2 is coming out before Christmas, so reViSiT will only be in Beta, and I'd rather have as stable plugin as possible before hitting the masses. I'll just have to wait for T3. Of course, if I could get Steinberg to hardwire reViSiT into Cubase... hmm... All the best,

Developer Posts: 746 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: England | Good news on the Tracktion front. v0.85.4 will use a new keyboard mode which will be as good as Host mode, and which works with Tracktion. Also, host synchronisation will also work perfectly with Tracktion in the new version. I sitting here waiting to release it, but the web server is down... so I'll guess I'll just twiddle my thumbs and stare at the ceiling. All the best,

Developer Posts: 746 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: England | Well, I did as the man said, and this fortunately allowed me to catch a fairly large bug. Nonetheless, the bug is solved, the website is up and running and the new version is available. All the best,

Regular Posts: 62 ![]() ![]() Location: United States | Chris, I dont want to keep dogging you, but on the 500mhz laptop the keys still lag considerably in tracktion. Its truly not a huge deal, just letting you know. On my a64 desktop it runs fine ![]() ROnC

Developer Posts: 746 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: England | Okay, well now the lag is nothing to do with reViSiT - it looks like anything that vies with Tracktion for keyboard is going to have the lag. This is because Tracktion uses a keyboard hook itself. I - unbelievably - have a fifth idea for keyboard support, but I'm not going to try it until 0.90 now. It might well have the capability to get rid of the lag though. Do you notice any form of lag when you play back the pattern and watch the playback cursor scroll down? Does it seam to iterate through them smoothly or hesitantly? All the best,
