Subject: Sample list question

Hi,

Thank you for making such a wonderful program. I have a question about how reViSiT imports wav files. There are two lines on the sample list window (I suppose one for left and one for right). When I import a mono file only one line is used. When I import a stereo file it prompts me to import either a left or right channel, yet it uses both lines. So, my question is, is it importing the stereo sound? Or is it duplicating one channel?

Thanks.

Aaron.

Hi there, Aaron,

Before v0.85.2, reViSiT used to only load a single channel of a stereo .WAV file (that chosen by the user with the LEFT / RIGHT dialog). From v0.85.2, reViSiT got INITIAL support for multi-channel wave files - meaning it can load, save and display them. However, it can't yet play them in stereo, quad, etc. - it just uses the first channel of the file (i.e. left, for stereo files). Eventually this will be extended to stereo playback within a single channel (and panning will move the stereo image left and right, etc.). So, I admit the channel prompt (left / right) dialog is a little useless and misleading... and will be gone in v0.86. I suppose, if stereo panning isn't too tricky, v0.86 could also have stereo sample playback - reViSiT's audio engine already uses 2 audio channels per tracker channel, so there shouldn't be any performance hit.

All the best,
Chris
