A new note auto off's the previous note (on the same channel). For monophonic (or *acting* as monophonic) instruments that's the logical thing to expect. However, what to do with polyphonic instruments like a harp, or a piano? For a harp melody the auto note-off is prolly the most sense making thing again, but what about glissandi? Tens of strings will vibrate on a harp in case of a glissandi, and yet in this current mechanism they're all note-off'ed. One could ofcourse spread a glissando across a number of channels, but that's:
- messy
- a lot of work
So, here's a proposal:
One command, doesn't need to be a nice looking one, puts a channel into glissando mode. After this command no note on that channel is off'ed by revisit. So with that you can make glissandi on one single channel.
Another command disables the glissando mode, and thus acts as some kinda damper: all playing glissando voices are note-off'ed.
A little bit away from the orchestra, it's also practical for drums. Imagine a drumkit with 14 cymbals (there are those freaks, you know!) and a drummer with 2 hands. At a certain point all those cymbals are still ringing in real life, but not when you have one hand hitting one channel in Revisit, then each cymbal will be off'ed again (in theory a long release envelope in the instrument provider could make it continue to ring, but that's not very practical). |

Location: England | I haven't tried it, but would NNA Continue also work? You can then send manual note cuts, or use Previous Note Cut effects.

Location: Netherlands | ctrl #64 works for what I intended, but it feels a bit like overkill to spend one of the controllers for something which is basically on/off. But alas, it works.
NNA's are also for midi-out?? (see, I *never* ever use the built-in instrument provider.) |
