You will not be able to start or end selections on specific subrows for now - selections will be row to row, and include all the subrows of the selected rows. Subrows, however, fall under the high-definition (HD) (subrow/tick/frame access) features of reViSiTĀ 1.2. The situation you're talking about might be better handled by the high-resolution (HR) features, which will come in the form of a global Rows per Beat setting, allowing you to change the "speed"/resolution of your whole song (from 1 to 16 tracker rows per host beat, with the default at 4).

Just one thing: the Rows per beat setting will apply to all patterns in a song. A per-pattern setting may be more desirable, but would complicate the host sync. mechanism too much for inclusion at this point.

just got back from holiday, the animation in the development blog looks stunning! can't wait for 1.2, since using a double sized pattern with high speed like I used to do in IT can now be done again. very cool progress

Are the subrow resolutions per channel or global across all channels? More to the point, can there be 9th against 7th notes (to name something odd), or does that require a resolution of 63 subrows?

The subrow feature is effectively giving you access to the tracker frames (or ticks), the number of which is determined by the pattern resolution, set initially in Preferences (F12), but which can be subsequently changed using the Axx effect. As such the number of subrows is the same across all channels, at any one point in the piece. To do this any other way dramatically increases the complexity of the sequencing engine (not to mention the UI!).

So, you would require 63 subrows in your example, but you should be aware that reViSiT will only support resolutions up to 32 frames per row (A20). However, you could perhaps increase the rows per beat setting, to get finer fidelity control of time, and somehow mimic what your after. Also, when polyphonic MIDI-triggered patterns appear, this will allow each pattern being played to have independent resolutions.

Ok, I somehow expected this already. It probably means I'll need to take a few -extreme- impossibilities for granted.

Hmm, I haven't tested that one, and I'm away from my development computer at the moment. However, I think you will get two notes, but the delayed note will begin "released", with its NNA triggered.

For a tricky note order invertor!
