My main development platform is:

Custom-built desktop PC
Gigabyte GA-8I945GMMFY-RH (Intel 945GM Mobile Chipset)
Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 (Merom 2.16GHz)
2Gb RAM
Windows XP Pro 32-bit (and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit)
Microsoft Optical Mouse
Gigabyte ATI 4550 PCIe (passive cooling) + 2 x 19" monitors
Matrox Millennium II PCI + 1 x 15" monitor

= Plenty performance... and runs off a 120W laptop brick, so totally silent.

While in Cambridge, I'm running a somewhat reduced studio setup:

Fatar STUDIO CMK37 (midi controller)
Mackie Onyx Satellite (firewire audio interface)
Roland XV2020 (sound module)

With the following in storage:

Focusrite Saffire Pro 26/IO (firewire audio interface)
MIDIMan MIDISport 8x8 (midi interface)
Yamaha CS1x (midi controller / synth)
Yamaha EX5r (workstation synth)
Korg TR Rack (sound module)
Novation KS Rack (analog-modelling synth)
Technics SX-P50 (digital piano)

'Looking forward to wiring them back up, once the research is complete...

I have a Laptop, or as I prefer to call it, my Portable Studio. HURRAH! Great for lunch breaks at work.

It happens to be a Toshiba Satellite 500.
It has 4GB of memory with Pentium Dual Core 2.1 MHz.
It runs Windows 7 (amazingly I've had no crashes so far!)
I have an old Yamaha YS 200 for MIDI input (Unfortunately, I need a USB to MIDI cable to use it since moving to a laptop. I will likely buy a real life proper macho MIDI keyboard in future.)
I can't sing so the crummy inbuilt speaker (which is probably a crappy condenser microphone) suits me fine when I scream incoherently.
I play electric and bass guitar and own both (cheap brands, but not necessarily nasty). My kitchen and workplace could also be considered an instrument to sample from.
FL Studio, Audacity and SynthEdit are my primary bits of software for music. Likely reViSiT will be included in that list considering all that I learned while a teenager using trackers in the '90s.
